Gaudete (1582)

“Gaudete,” the refrain for a Latin Christmas carol appearing in Piae Cantiones. Except for the omission of one syllable to accommodate a ten-syllable text, the soprano, tenor, and bass lines are identical, the alto line nearly identical, to Spangenberg’s arrangement of “Vitam quae faciant beatiorem,” “Grammaticae Latinae Partes,” Wittenberg, 1538.
