Associated Texts

This tune originated as a plainchant melody to be sung with the Advent hymn Conditor alma siderum. In Valentin Bapst’s 1545 hymnal it was used in adapted form to replace an earlier tune for Michael Weiss’s text, “Praise Be to God Almighty Given (Lob sei dem allmächtigen Gott).” The association is appropriate given the text’s Advent themes.
