The 114th Psalm. In exitu Israel.

View Pointing:

1When Israel went out of Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2Judah was His sanctuary,
Israel His dominion.
3The sea saw it and fled,
the Jordan was driven back.
4The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs of the flock.
5What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest?
thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams?
ye hills, like lambs of the flock?
7Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8Which turned the rock into a standing water,
the flint into a fountain of waters.

1When Israel went | out ( of ) Egypt,*
the house of Jacob from a people | of strangelan- ) guage,
2Judah was His | sanc- ( tu- ) ary,*
Israèl | His do- ( min- ) ion.
3The sea | saw ( it ) and fled,*
the Jor- | dan was ( driven ) back.
4The | moun- ( tains skipped ) like rams,*
the hills like | lambs of ( the ) flock.
5What ailed thee, O thou sea, | that ( thou ) fleddest?*
thou Jordan, that | thou wast ( driven ) back?
6ye mountains, | that ( ye skipped ) like rams?*
ye hills, like | lambs of ( the ) flock?
7Tremble, thou earth, at the | pres- ( ence of ) the Lord,*
at the presence of the | God of ( Ja- ) cob,
8Which turned the rock into a | stand- ( ing ) water,*
the flint into a foun- | tain of ( wa- ) ters.

1Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us,
but unto Thy name give glory,
for Thy mercy and for Thy truth’s sake.
2Wherefore should the nations say,
Where is now their God?
3But our God is in the heavens;
all that He hath pleased He hath done.
4Their idols are silver and gold,
the work of men’s hands.
5They have mouths, but they do not speak;
eyes have they, but they do not see;
6They have ears, but they do not hear;
noses have they, but they do not smell;
7They have hands, but they do not handle;
feet have they, but they do not walk,
neither speak they through their throat.
8They that make them are like unto them;
so is everyone that trusteth in them.
9O Israel, trust thou in the Lord:
their help and their shield is He.
10O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord:
their help and their shield is He.
11Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord:
their help and their shield is He.
12The Lord hath been mindful of us; He will bless us;
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13He will bless them that fear the Lord,
both the small and the great.
14The Lord shall increase you more and more,
both you and your children.
15Ye are blessed of the Lord,
which made heaven and earth.
16The heavens, even the heavens, are the Lord’s,
but the earth hath He given to the children of men.
17The dead praise not the Lord,
neither any that go down into silence.
18But we will bless the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore.

Alleluia.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, both now and ever,
and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The 114th–115th Psalms, which are found together as Psalm 113 in the LXX and Vulgate, are sung together, with one Gloria Patri, as the Fifth Psalm at Vespers on Sunday. The traditional tone is the Tonus Peregrinus, selection 9 in the Psalm Player.
