The 114th–115th Psalm. In exitu Israel.

To sing this Psalm, see the Psalm Tones. Psalms 114–115 (LXX and Vulgate 113) are sung as a single Psalm to the Tonus Peregrinus.

1 When Israel went | out ( of ) E- gypt,*
the house of Jacob out of a | for- eign ( peo- ) ple,

2 Judah was His | sanc- ( tu- ) ar- y,*
Israel | His do- ( min- ) ion.

3 The | seasaw ) and fled;*
The | Jor- dan ( turn- ed ) back.

4 The | moun- ( tains leaped ) like lambs,*
the | hills like ( young ) sheep.

5 What ailed thee, thou sea, | that ( thou ) fled- dest?*
and thou Jordan, | that thou ( turn- edst ) back?

6 Ye mountains, | that ( ye leaped ) like lambs,*
ye | hills, like ( young ) sheep?

7 Before the Lord | trem- ( bleth ) the earth,*
before the | God of ( Ja- ) cob,

8 Who turned the rock into a | pool ( of ) wa- ter,*
the stones into a foun- | tain of ( wa- ) ters.

115:1 Not unto us, O Lord, | not ( un- to ) us,*
but unto Thy name give glory, | for Thy ( grace and ) truth.

2 Wherefore | should ( the hea- ) then say,*
… | Where is ( now their ) God?

3 But our God | is ( in ) heav- en;*
he can bring to | pass what ( He ) will.

4 Their idols, however, are | sil- ( ver ) and gold,*
made | by the ( hands of ) men.

5 They have | mouths, ( and ) speak not;*
they have | eyes, and ( see ) not;

6 They have | ears, ( and ) hear not;*
they have nos- | es, and ( smell ) not;

7 They have hands, and grasp not; they have | feet, ( and ) walk not,*
and speak | not through ( their ) throat.

8 So also are | they ( that ) make them,*
and | all that ( trust in ) them.

9 But let Israel | hope ( in ) the Lord;*
He | is their ( help and ) shield.

10 Let the house of Aaron | hope ( in ) the Lord;*
He | is their ( help and ) shield.

11 Let them that fear the Lord hope | al- ( so in ) the Lord;*
He | is their ( help and ) shield.

12 The Lord | think- ( eth up- ) on us*
… | … and ( bless- eth ) us;

He blesseth the | house ( of Is- ) ra- el;*
he blesseth the | house of ( Aa- ) ron.

13 He blesseth | them ( that fear ) the Lord,*
… | … both ( small and ) great.

14 The Lord | bless ( you more ) and more,*
you | and your ( child- ) ren.

15 Ye are the | bless ( ed of ) the Lord,*
who hath made | heav- en ( and ) earth.

16 The heavens are alto- | geth- ( er ) the Lord’s,*
but the earth hath he given to the | child- ren ( of ) men.

17 The dead will not | praise ( Thee, ) O Lord,*
nor they that go down | in- to ( si- ) lence.

18 But | webless ) the Lord*
from this time forth | and for- ( ev- er- ) more.

Alleluia.

Glory be to the Father | and ( to ) the Son*
and | to the ( Ho- ly ) Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and | ev- ( er ) shall be,*
world | with- out ( end. A- ) men.
