Johann Heermann (1585–1647)

Died: February 17, 1647, Lissa (Leszno), Poland

Johann Heermann was born 1585 in Raudten, Silesia. Beginning 1611, he served as pastor in Köben (Chobienia), where he suffered through the horrors of the Thirty Years’ War, bearing many crosses together with his congregation and in his own household. He died 1647 in Lissa, Poland. He is the most significant hymn-writer of our church to arise between Luther and Gerhardt.
